Newham Borough where City Chapel is located is facing a surge of teenage girls getting involved in gang activities in addition to the existing challenge of teenage pregnancies.
City Chapel Super Academy has developed a program to support parents and teenage girls via the ‘Teenage Girls Project’
City Chapel Super Academy program focuses on helping the parents/guardians understand the peculiarities of this environment and the style that is required (and proven to work) to guide their teenagers.
WHO IS IT FOR
-Teenage girls between ages 11 and 16 of BAME Backgrounds and
– Their parents/guardians.
FORMAT OF THE PROGRAM
– The program would be delivered through a combination of workshops and teambuilding exercises.
This will be with parents/guardians and the teenage girls separately, giving them time to air out their issues and challenges while listening to others share their own situations.
-Subsequent weeks will be delivered with parents/guardians and teenage girls co-located to enable open discussion and dialogue.
- To re-orientate parents/guardians of teenage girls about the differentiation of the cultural environment in the UK versus their home country.
- To promote better relations between the girls and their parents/guardians.
- To encourage teenage girls to engage with positive role models.
